Study at the Institute

The admission procedure is arranged in two steps and takes place once a year:

Step 1: Submit Portfolio
The following documentation is to be submitted:

  • Portfolio with approx. 20 current works (drawings/studies of nature)
  • CV with – if applicable – educational certificates, evidence of internship, documentation of previous projects

Step 2: Entrance Exam
Applicants whose portfolio was assessed positively will be admitted to the entrance exam. The exam will take 2 – 3 days and consists of written, oral, and practical sections.
Applicants should gather information about a conservator-restorer’s everyday work life well beforehand. It is recommended to undertake a pre-study internship of several weeks at a conservation-restoration studio.
We also recommend an appointment with the head of the Institute for a personal discussion. Appointments are arranged by the Institute’s office (

Should you have questions regarding the studies or the entrance exam, please do not hesitate to contact the head of the Institute or the assistants. We recommend that prior to the entrance exam you arrange for a consultation appointment in which the portfolio and any questions regarding the study course may be discussed.

At the annual Open House in autumn, interested parties can see the Institute for themselves and obtain information about the diploma degree programme.
